I will be going to the auction this morning. I'm meeting a couple of gals from Windsor who might be able to help. I have called the auction ( 707-763-0893 ) and they report at least 2 are going to be run through at noon. This happens every Mon; but sometimes they have no horses. They almost always have goats, dairy cattle and steers and newborn calves.

Just got back from said auction. We had no quarantine facilities lined up so the gal from Windsor could not buy anything. Hopefully we will get more organized with places to take them for 30 days. There are folks who might be able to foster but do not have the facilities to completely separate a horse for a while. IF FROM THE AUCTION - I really recommend quarantine. This is a tiny auction with not alot of horse traffic - but you never know. Need s to be more than a fence line. Folks with just a couple acres or so might need some help - lets see that they get some - yes??
There were four horses there. One beautiful dark brown with long mane and tale. Good feet. Excellent weight and conformation. Looked just a little draft. Little Fresian even. High head carriage. Just beautiful. He was bought by Paul from McNamara Horse and Carriage. Hopefully he will work out for Paul. (Paul seemed to be a nice guy) Sold for $150ish. Thank goodness Paul dropped by on his way to a horse-shoeing job. He ended up re-scheduling his job to save this guy.
A 6 yr old paint that was said to be a good trail horse. Looked healthy enough. Bought by Bob that runs Wine Country Equipment. A friend of mine knows him (the guy...not the horse). Sold for around $370 at .31 cents a pound.
There was a beautiful Appy there that was NOT run through. People sometimes drop off horses and they say "straight to slaughter." Maybe this guy. Dont know why on this one. Looked healthy enough. Maybe temperment or just pissed someone off. Very sad.
And the 4th one was very sad. An older guy, maybe 20. Good weight although a little thin. Might have been TB. Someone didnt want to pay the vet bill for an injured knee; had a golf ball sized knob on it. And his shoes needed to come off badly and needed good foot trim. He was in pain on all 4 feet although did not favor the injured knee. Could have been buted. They asked .10 a pound for him. I dont know if he sold or to whom. The mention was "around the corner" for this guy. I can only hope he was shot and rendered right there; and not held for the slaughter truck.
With a little funding I would have taken him and had him checked out a bit. He might have had another decade of good life. Or had him euthed. Yes - it is heart-breaking. But we really must do what must be done to keep them OFF THE TRUCK. That is tortured way to die.
I just spent $350 on my Off the Track Thoroughbred (OTTB) yesterday for a vet visit and may need more treatment for her; so I am pretty broke.
I feel positive tho. I know we can involve the community in a great way and help some of these horses. Next week is holiday so the Monday after we should have some places lined up. Call me at 824-9543 if you want to help. It is a very rewarding thing to do.

Paul McNamara, who took one of the horses from the auction you posted about, is a decent fellow who does a lot of driving.
I wouldn't stress doing strict quarantine with the animals from the auction. In a perfect world, yes, a long QT is good. Bringing a horse home and keeping it physically separate from your other animals for 7-10 days should suffice.

I know a place that has seperate paddocks with exceptional stalls.. all are private no horse to horse contact. would be great for quarantine. He is willing to only charge $200 month for rescues. this includes feeding and cleaning etc. He has solid wall round pen and huge arenas and turnout. location in Sebastopol on Bloomield Rd. Very safe ... very nice. Im willing to transport for anyone. I have a 4 horse slant GN trailer. :-)
