Hi ~many of you already know me but for those who are new to the Proboards horse rescue world, I go by Gratefulknits wherever I go on Proboards, and by pipnlala on BAEN. My real name is Hope Becklund. I live in Petaluma, my medical practice is in Sebastopol (I'm a family physician) and my horses are boarded in Sebastopol as well.
I'm "mom" to Gualala, a 20-something year old OTTB-ex-broodie who is living the life of Riley in retirement; Pippin, an approximately 6 year old mare who is probably a TB or TB/QH cross; and Homer, a 14 year TB gelding who was rescued from a schooling program that didn't want him anymore. All 3 are rescues. Gualala and Pippin came from a feedlot in Washington where they were headed to slaughter; Homer was going to be euthanized because his owners no longer had a need for his services. I don't ride any of them: Lala is retired, Pippin has some spinal injury that prevents it, and Homer needs more ground work before I'm ready to get aboard (and how do I find time to do that when I'm also a workaholic? hmmmm, I'll have to figure this one out!). But I love them all very much.
I'm also "mom" to three cats: Calvin, Hobbes and Ella. They rule the roost in Petaluma but they are reasonably gracious about letting me use the couch as long as I provide a warm lap.
I've been involved in horse rescue since fall of 2006 in various ways, and I'm really excited that Kate has created this board, the website, and SAFER!
